His Story
A Life of Service
Waymond Fermon is a lifelong public servant, longtime Indio resident, correctional officer, father, and proud representative of District 2 on the Indio City Council.
First elected in 2018, Waymond made history as Indio's first Black American mayor. Since taking office, he has helped lead Indio through tremendous growth while remaining focused on the neighborhoods, families, seniors, young people, local businesses, and working residents who make the city special.
Waymond has helped advance major investments in public safety, infrastructure, affordable housing, economic development, energy reliability, parks, and opportunities for local youth. His work includes helping deliver Indio's new Public Safety Campus, the Indio Sports Park, significant road and bridge improvements, Downtown revitalization, and more than 2,000 affordable homes completed, approved, or in development.
He has also championed a more welcoming and inclusive Indio by helping bring Pride and Black History celebrations to the city, recognizing racism as a public health crisis, honoring local veterans and community heroes, and ensuring that residents from every background have a voice.
With more than two decades of public safety experience, Waymond leads with service, accountability, accessibility, and collaboration. He remains committed to responsible growth, safe neighborhoods, strong infrastructure, housing people can afford, a thriving local economy, and a better quality of life for every Indio resident.
